Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality for Memphis and the Mid-South
Cool isn’t the same as comfortable. We handle the humidity, the fresh air, and the stuff you’re breathing.
Built for Mid-South air
Memphis air carries a lot of water. A house can be 72 degrees and still feel clammy, and a house that holds above 55 or 60 percent humidity is a house that grows mold, warps floors, and never quite feels clean. At the same time, newer and renovated homes are sealed tight enough that cooking fumes, moisture, and everyday pollutants have nowhere to go.
Griggs HVAC designs ventilation and air quality solutions for this specific climate. We don’t sell a list of add-ons. We assess your system and your house, tell you what will make a real difference, and install it to the same standard as everything else we do.
Ventilation and air quality services
Whole-home dehumidifiers. Integrated with your ductwork and thermostat, so you can set the temperature a couple of degrees higher and feel more comfortable while spending less.
Fresh-air ventilation (ERV / HRV). Brings filtered, conditioned outside air in without dumping your cooled air out. Worth considering on any tight, recently renovated house.
Filtration and purification. Media filtration, UV lights on the coil, and air purifiers matched to the concern: allergies, dust, pets, odors.
Exhaust ventilation. Bathroom and kitchen fans sized and vented properly to the outdoors, never into the attic.
Attic and crawl-space ventilation. Roof-load and moisture control as part of a whole-house assessment.
Commercial ventilation. Make-up air, kitchen exhaust, and restroom exhaust for restaurants, churches, and light commercial buildings.
An assessment, not a catalog
Humidity
We look at how your AC is removing moisture. Sometimes the fix is a fan-speed adjustment, sometimes it’s a dehumidifier.
Airflow
We check where air is leaking in and out of the house and the duct system, and whether the home is getting fresh air at all.
Air quality
Filters, coils, and exhaust fans tell us a lot about what’s actually in the air and where it’s coming from.
Recommendation
We tell you what will make a real difference, and we’ll tell you if the expensive option isn’t worth it for your house.
Air quality across the Mid-South
We install ventilation and air quality systems throughout the Memphis metro area, including East Memphis, Midtown, and Central Gardens, and in Germantown, Collierville, Arlington, Atoka, Brighton, Covington, Somerville, Whiteville, and Ripley, TN; Hernando and Horn Lake, MS; and West Memphis, AR. See all service areas.
Pairs well with a tune-up
Filters, coils, and drain pans have a lot to do with what you’re breathing. A seasonal tune-up keeps them clean, and it’s a good time for us to take a look at humidity and airflow too.

Ventilation & air quality FAQs
Why does my house feel humid even when the AC is running?
Memphis summer air carries a lot of moisture, and an oversized or short-cycling AC removes heat faster than it removes humidity. The fix may be as simple as a fan-speed adjustment, or it may call for a whole-home dehumidifier that works alongside your system. Either way, a home that sits above 55 to 60 percent humidity will feel warmer and is more prone to mold and musty odors.
Is a whole-home dehumidifier worth it in the Mid-South?
For many local homes, yes. A whole-home dehumidifier lets you set the thermostat a couple of degrees higher and still feel comfortable, protects wood floors and furniture, and cuts down on allergens and mildew. Griggs installs dehumidifiers that integrate with your existing ductwork and thermostat.
Can you improve the air quality in my home?
Yes. Depending on your concerns (allergies, dust, odors, pets) we can add media filtration, UV lights on the coil, or an energy recovery ventilator (ERV) that brings in fresh air without dumping your conditioned air outside. We’ll assess your system and recommend what will make a real difference rather than a list of add-ons.
What is fresh-air ventilation and does my home need it?
Newer, tightly built homes hold in cooking fumes, moisture, and everyday pollutants. A mechanical fresh-air system controls how outside air comes in, filtering and conditioning it first. It’s standard on Griggs custom new-construction homes and worth considering on any recently renovated or well-sealed house.
Should my attic or crawl space be ventilated?
Proper attic ventilation keeps roof temperatures down and reduces the load on your AC; in a crawl space, ventilation or encapsulation controls the moisture that leads to mold and duct sweating. Griggs can evaluate both as part of a whole-house ventilation assessment.
Can bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans be tied into my HVAC system?
Exhaust fans should vent directly outdoors, never into the attic or the return air. If your current fans are undersized or dumping air into the attic, we can correct the venting and size the fans properly to control moisture at the source.
