HVAC Installation and Replacement in Memphis and the Mid-South
A new system is a fifteen-year decision. We size it to your house, install it to industry standards or better, and stand behind it.
Installed right the first time
Most HVAC systems don’t fail early because the equipment was bad. They fail because the install was. An oversized unit that short-cycles, a duct connection that was never sealed, a refrigerant charge that was “close enough”: these are the shortcuts that show up as a service call in year three and a replacement in year ten.
Griggs HVAC has installed heating and cooling systems across the Memphis metro and the Mid-South for over twenty years, and every one starts the same way: a load calculation for your actual house, a written itemized quote, and an install crew that does the small things right without adding them to the invoice. We’re not the cheapest quote you’ll get, because doing things the right way takes time, better materials, and professional expertise. We’re the one that’s still the right call when the system’s fifteen years old.
What we install
Central air conditioners and heat pumps. For most Mid-South homes, a heat pump handles our mild winters efficiently and doubles as your AC. We’ll show you the operating-cost difference for your house rather than push one type.
Gas furnaces and dual-fuel systems. If you have gas service and want stronger heat during a hard freeze, a heat pump with a gas furnace backup gives you both.
Ductless mini-splits. Additions, garages, bonus rooms, and older homes where running ductwork doesn’t make sense.
Full system replacements. Indoor and outdoor units together, with the ductwork evaluated so the new system isn’t held back by the old ducts.
Trane systems at every level. Griggs is a Trane Comfort Specialist dealer, with options across every tier of Trane equipment. We’ll recommend the tier that fits your budget and tell you plainly where the extra money makes a difference and where it doesn’t.
How a Griggs installation works
The visit
We measure the house, check the existing ductwork, and run a Manual J load calculation. No sizing from the old unit's nameplate.
The quote
Written and itemized, with equipment options at more than one tier and the payback on each. What's on the quote is what you pay. Most full replacements land between $5,000 and $16,000.
The install
Most changeouts are done in a day; jobs with duct, gas line, or electrical work run two to three. We protect your floors, haul off the old equipment, and don't leave until the system is commissioned.
The follow-up
1-year workmanship guarantee, 5 years of labor on standard Trane equipment and 10 years above standard, plus help with TVA EnergyRight and MLGW rebates where they apply.
Financing available through Service Finance, FTL, and Wells Fargo, including 0% options. Ask about financing →
When your old system has already quit
If you’re reading this because the air went out, call us first. A real person answers 24/7, we guarantee service at your home within 24 hours, and our goal is cooling your home in that same window. If the right move is a replacement, we can often set up a temporary unit while the new equipment arrives, so you’re not choosing between a rushed decision and no A/C.
Installation across the Mid-South
We install new systems throughout the Memphis metro area, including East Memphis, Midtown, and Central Gardens, and in Germantown, Collierville, Arlington, Atoka, Brighton, Covington, Somerville, Whiteville, and Ripley, TN; Hernando and Horn Lake, MS; and West Memphis, AR.
We specialize in older homes in Midtown and Central Gardens. We’ve replaced many systems in homes that were never designed for central air, and we know how to make it work without tearing up the plaster.
HVAC done right the first time
Griggs HVAC has served the Mid-South for over twenty years, and we've done it one way: to industry standards or better, on every job, for a fair price. We're not the cheapest company in Memphis and we're not trying to be. We're the one that does the small things right, the things other companies leave off the quote and add back later, so the job holds up and you don't have to call twice.
Multi-generational and Mid-South based, doing it to industry standards or better since day one.
A real person picks up the phone, day or night. Never a recording.
If your air goes out, we guarantee service at your home within 24 hours, and our goal is cooling your home in that same window.
Plus 5 to 10 years of labor coverage on Trane equipment.
HVAC installation FAQs
How much does a new HVAC system cost in the Memphis area?
Most full residential system replacements in the Mid-South land in the $5,000–$16,000 range depending on the size of your home, the equipment tier, and whether ductwork needs attention. Griggs sizes every system to the house rather than swapping like-for-like, and we'll give you a written, itemized quote before any work starts, with no surprise line items on install day.
How do I know what size system my home needs?
A properly sized system is calculated with a Manual J load calculation that accounts for your square footage, insulation, window exposure, and how much Memphis humidity the system has to pull out of the air. Oversized units short-cycle and leave the house clammy; undersized units run nonstop in July. Griggs runs the load calculation on every install instead of guessing from the old unit's nameplate.
Should I choose a heat pump or a gas furnace with an air conditioner?
For most Mid-South homes, a heat pump handles our mild winters efficiently and doubles as your air conditioner in summer. If you already have gas service and want stronger heat during the occasional hard freeze, a dual-fuel setup (heat pump plus gas furnace backup) gives you the best of both. We'll walk you through the operating-cost difference for your specific home rather than pushing one type.
What SEER2 rating should I look for?
Federal minimums for our region are currently 14.3 SEER2 for most air conditioners and heat pumps, but with Memphis cooling seasons running from April into October, stepping up to a 16–20 SEER2 system usually pays for itself in lower summer bills. Griggs is a Trane Comfort Specialist company and can provide options on all levels of Trane and Trane-related products, and we'll show you the payback math on each tier.
How long does an HVAC installation take?
A standard changeout, new indoor and outdoor unit on existing ductwork, is typically completed in one day. Jobs that include duct replacement, a new gas line, or electrical upgrades can run two to three days. We'll give you a firm schedule with your quote, and if your old system has already failed, we guarantee service at your home within 24 hours, and temporary heat and AC is available until the new system is in.
What warranty comes with a new system from Griggs?
Every installation is backed by Griggs' 1-year workmanship guarantee on top of the manufacturer's parts warranty. Standard Trane equipment comes with a 5-year labor warranty, and any Trane equipment above standard carries 10 years of labor warranty. That means if something goes wrong with the equipment in the years after installation, you're not paying to fix it.
Do you offer financing or rebates on new systems?
Yes. Griggs offers financing through Service Finance, FTL, and Wells Fargo with available 0% financing, and we'll help you claim any current TVA EnergyRight or local utility rebates (MLGW in Shelby County, or your local electric co-op elsewhere in the Mid-South) on qualifying high-efficiency equipment. Rebate programs change frequently, so we check what's active at the time of your quote.
What is changing with refrigerants, and does it affect my new system?
As of 2025, new residential systems use lower-global-warming-potential refrigerants (such as R-454B or R-32) instead of R-410A. It doesn't change how the system performs for you, but it does mean a new install is a clean break from an older refrigerant that will get more expensive to service over time. Griggs installs current-generation equipment, and our technicians are trained on the new refrigerants.
